Islamabad: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has announced its decision to launch an investigation into the alleged malpractices carried out by housing societies in Islamabad and Lahore, a news source reported.
To this effect, NAB Chairman Justice (retired) Javed Iqbal
has ordered the director generals (DGs) of the bureau’s Rawalpindi and Lahore
divisions to launch a probe into reports of ‘China Cutting’ (slicing plots from
parks and land earmarked for public amenities) in Islamabad societies, as well
as against one housing project in Lahore found conducting marketing activity
without the Lahore Development Authority (LDA)’s approval.
A spokesperson for the anti-graft watchdog stated that the chairman had directed the NAB DG Rawalpindi to investigate the illegal housing societies in the capital city based on the pattern followed in Karachi.
The chairman issued the said directives after taking notice of
several complaints regarding housing societies scamming people by selling plots
or files without having their projects’ layout plans approved, or receiving
No-Objection Certificates (NOCs), from the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
Moreover, Justice (retired) Iqbal directed the
NAB DG Lahore to investigate a housing society in the city that had commenced
with its advertisement campaign without having any land and its layout plan
approved from the LDA. To this effect, the NAB spokesman stated that the
chairman had sought action against the LDA officers concerned for showing
negligence in this matter.
