Islamabad: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has elected to close down inquiries against the Karachi Development Authority (KDA), and several other enterprises – according to news sources. This decision was made in a NAB Executive Board meeting held on Wednesday.
As per the official handout provided by the authority, the meeting decided to close inquiries against officials belonging to the Defence Housing Authority, Karachi; Federal Board of Revenue; Port Qasim Authority; Karachi Port Trust; irrigation division, Sindh; and former director of Nara Canal, (SEDA), Mirpurkhas. Each party was exonerated due to a lack of evidence against them. In addition, the cases against officials of KDA and the Sindh government were also dismissed — on the orders of the Supreme Court.

However, the board did decide to pursue a few investigations regarding the abuse of power. The Chairman NAB retired Justice Javed Iqbal disclosed that the World Economic Forum had recently lauded NAB’s performance. As a result, the department was going to be focusing on mega corruption cases, in order to recover black money.
In this regard, the chairman revealed that over the last 23 months, the bureau had managed to recover PKR 71 billion. Additionally, he said that over 1,235 corruption references involving PKR 900 billion were also being heard in various courts.

Lastly, he directed officials to complete complaint verifications, investigations, and inquires within the communicated timeframe, so as to streamline the entire process.
