Islamabad: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman (retired) Justice Javed Iqbal on Wednesday revealed that the bureau has taken notice of the illegal housing societies in the port city of Gwadar — with these unlawful residential schemes resulting in losses worth millions to the national exchequer, according to news sources.

He went on to say that NAB had taken notice of the corruption and irregularities that were being practised in the allotment of industrial and commercial plots. He was of the view that these unlawful practices were jeopardizing the economic development of Punjab.
Moreover, the chairman stated that Gwadar was the ‘gateway to Pakistan’s development and that economic activities in the area would lead to prosperity in Balochistan and the country’. He opined that the provision of legal investment opportunities was a requisite to achieve progress. He further criticized the illegal practice of luring investments in the housing sector without the availability of requisite land and said that he would be visiting the port city soon to receive a briefing on such unlawful incidents.

In addition, the chairman said that dedicated desks had been established at the NAB offices in order to facilitate the business community and address their complaints as per the law.
