Energy Minister Omar Ayub reassured the NA that these tariffs would be revised by April, so that residents can get some relief. The current tariff being charged is known as the A3 (General) tariff and was imposed by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).

This A3 tariff is higher than the commercial tariff, and Ayub stated that his ministry is in talks with NEPRA to bring it down by April. Most of the rural areas of Islamabad receive their electricity from tube wells, and the citizens were unable to pay these higher power tariffs, resulting in the water schemes being closed down. Once the tariff is revised, this situation is expected to improve.
