Islamabad: President Arif Alvi on Thursday summoned a session of the National Assembly (NA) for May 11 to discuss the negative impact of COVID-19 on the economy, a news source reported. To this effect, the 21st session of the NA is expected to continue from May 11 till May 21.

President Alvi summoned the session on the recommendation of a parliamentary committee to conduct a physical session. Parliamentary parties from both the government and opposition rejected the idea of a virtual NA session due to a range of technical and constitutional concerns.

As per the committee’s recommendations, the session will be conducted for several hours each day and the members will debate on the set agenda. The adjournment motion, the question hour, privilege motion, and call attention notice will also not be conducted. Additionally, it was also recommended that members would not mention a lack of quorum as a small number of members are expected to attend the upcoming NA session.
