Islamabad: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Postal Services has sought the details of all land owned by the Pakistan Post, a news source reported. Further, the panel has asked the officials concerned to provide it with a list of both legal and encroached properties currently under the hold of the postal body.

Member National Assembly (MNA) Haji Imtiaz Ahmed Chaudhry chaired a meeting of the committee at the Parliament House on Friday. Pakistan Post Director General (DG) Muhammad Akhlaque Rana briefed the MNA about the recommendations presented during the previous sessions.
The body sought a list all properties usable for commercial purposes. In response, the Pakistan Post officials informed the committee members that 281 properties of the department were under illegal occupation. They added that six of the Pakistan Post buildings situated in Islamabad remained under illegal occupation.

The members said that they would request Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan to pass official directives for the retrieval of Pakistan Post’s land. They added that the federal institution should make extensive use of print and electronic media for creating public awareness.
It also recommended that the department officials should brief about Postal Life Insurance & Saving Bank function during the next meeting.

Meanwhile, the committee considered the Pakistan Postal services Management Board (Amendment) Bill 2019. It deferred the bill till next meeting since the mover of the bill was not present.
The Pakistan Post DG revealed that they the postal body had introduced several updates to its system. Further, the authority plans to introduce ATM machines and latest mobile applications for facilitating its pensioners and other customers.
Previously, the Punjab Urban Unit (PUU) had prepared a software to digitise the land records pertaining to Pakistan Railways.
