Islamabad: The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on Housing & Works on Thursday indicated its support for the recently tabled Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) Bill, 2019, a news source reported. The NA body further recommended several revisions to the draft of the proposed legislation.

The committee held its meeting – chaired by Member National Assembly (MNA) Engineer Muhammad Najeeb Haroon – at the Parliament House. The meeting reviewed the FGEHA Bill 2019. The committee members recommended that the FGEHA Board should work under the chairmanship of the housing minister. They added that the board should comprise one member each from the related standing committees of the lower and upper houses of the parliament.

In response, the officials concerned informed the committee that since the former Federal Governmnet Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF) was not a regulatory body, it was required to go through lengthy processes before sanctioning the launch of residential projects. These included seeking permissions and No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the concerned departments.

The officials added that the maintenance of exiting schemes was not possible without the foundation having an authority status. Therefore, they said, the former FGEHF had been established as FGEHA via an ordinance promulgated in July 2019.
