Lahore: The Punjab government on Wednesday (March 2) approved PKR 80 million for setting up a state-of-the-art museum in Multan for the promotion of South Punjab’s culture, according to media reports shared on March 3.

As per the details, the incumbent government has allotted 8 kanals of land for the construction of this museum. The land was owned by the Auqaf Department. The said project will be developed along the Water Works Road, near the historical Kohna Qasim Bagh.
A proposal was sent by the Archaeology Department as there are no museums in Multan for preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage and to showcase antiques. It was disclosed that PKR 20 million will be released for the construction of the museum’s building. The project is expected to be completed by 2023.

Multan Commissioner Dr Irshad Ahmad stated that the importance of Multan increased due to development of South Punjab Secretariat. With the help of the museum, tourists will be attracted to the city and generate employment opportunities. He went on to say that once the museum is completed, the antiques sent to Lahore for storage will be brought back for display.
