Rawalpindi: The Punjab government has decided to remove the jurisdiction of six tehsils in the Rawalpindi Division from the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) and has transferred these to the Rawalpindi District Council (RDC), according to a news story published on December 22. The six tehsils include; Kahuta, Kalar Syedan, Kotli Satian, Murree, Taxila and Gujjar Khan.

According to the report, after the transfer of these tehsils, the RDA now has control over 64 settlements. RDA Chairman Tariq Mahmood Murtaza briefed the media on the new setup, stating that there were 138 housing developments under RDA’s control, of which 80 were legitimate and 58 were being vetted. However, under the new setup, the RDA will be in charge of a smaller and more controllable number of housing complexes.

He added that the administration will now enforce the rule of business, levy fines, and even take legal action against unlawful housing schemes that are being developed under its new jurisdiction. According to the chairman, only those schemes developed in accordance with the RDA master plan will be permitted to publicise and sell plots, which includes green areas and other civic facilities as specified by the rule.
