Murree: The Punjab government has launched a massive Rs4.5 billion project to revamp Murree’s infrastructure and elevate it into a world-class tourist destination. The initiative, set to be completed within a year and a half, is being directly overseen by the chief minister to ensure timely execution.
Director General of the Walled City of Lahore Authority, Kamran Lashari, revealed that the project focuses on modernizing Murree while preserving its natural beauty and historic charm. Key improvements include the restoration of buildings and shops around the General Post Office (GPO) on Mall Road, aiming to revive their original architectural appeal.

“The Rs4.5 billion Murree project will transform the hill station into a premier tourist destination, highlighting Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage and scenic landscapes,” Lashari stated while speaking to media.
The project includes significant upgrades to Murree’s infrastructure, ensuring better facilities for both tourists and locals. Sustainable development remains a priority, with an emphasis on balancing modernization with environmental conservation.
To further enhance the tourist experience, the Punjab government is also introducing a glass train in Murree. This unique attraction is expected to provide visitors with breathtaking panoramic views of the region’s lush green hills and natural beauty.
Lashari emphasized that the redevelopment of Murree is not just about attracting tourists but also about stimulating economic growth. “By revitalizing Murree’s infrastructure, we aim to create jobs, support local businesses, and generate long-term economic benefits for the region,” he said.

The initiative is expected to attract a higher number of domestic and international tourists, boosting hospitality, retail, and service sectors in the area.
Apart from Murree’s transformation, the Walled City of Lahore Authority is actively working on restoring Punjab’s historic sites, including shrines, gurdwaras, and churches. Plans are also underway to arrange guided tours for students to visit Sufi shrines like Data Darbar, promoting cultural awareness and spiritual education.
Additionally, the province has seen a growing interest from Sikh tourists, with increasing numbers visiting Punjab to explore its rich heritage and historical sites.
With a clear vision and substantial investment, the Punjab government is positioning Murree as a top-tier tourist hub. The combination of modern amenities, heritage restoration, and new attractions like the glass train is set to redefine the hill station’s appeal.
