Abbottabad: The Galiyat Development Authority (GDA) reopened the main Murree Road – which was earlier closed off due to heavy snowing, for all vehicular traffic on Thursday, according to news sources.
An announcement was made in this regard by Director General GDA Raza Habeeb. He said that the provincial government will launch many development projects in Galiyat soon to promote tourism.

He said that the tourists are heading to the region to enjoy the snowfall season and that the department is making efforts to facilitate them, including keeping the Murree road open to keep traffic flowing. He added that new and modern snow sweeping vehicles (winter service vehicles) are being purchased for the remote and difficult areas – and revealed that two snow motorcycles had been purchased to deliver first aid on narrow paths.

The DG GDA also announced that a snow festival would soon be held for tourists and locals. He cautioned people to practice accident-preventat measures and contact 24/7 emergency lines if required.
