Multan: The Government of Punjab has initiated the operations of the Multan Walled City project, according to a news source. The project has faced several lapses in the past.
Under its directives, the historical buildings and gates of the Multan Walled City will be rehabilitated. These historical monuments have been deteriorating in the absence of proper maintenance. To help address the situation, the Punjab government issued a notification on the formation of the Steering Committee for the Multan Walled City. Orders in this regard came directly from Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar.

Punjab Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Culture Nadeem Qureshi will serve as the chairman for this steering committee. Other members include Multan Commissioner Iftikhar Sahoo, Member Punjab Assembly Zaheer Uddin Alizai, along with representatives from local government and the Punjab Planning and Development Department. Reportedly, experts from Italy are part of the committee as well.

Taking charge as the committee chairman, Qureshi said that the project has been conceived to revive the centuries’ old culture of Multan. He also reiterated his desire to rehabilitate the deteriorating historical buildings and structures of the city’s old town.
