Multan: The National Highway Authority (NHA) has opened the Multan-Sukkur Motorway (M-5) to light traffic movement today, a news source reported. NHA Central Zone (Punjab) Head of Communication Sibtain Raza Lodhi stated that heavy traffic would soon be allowed to use the said road network for commute purpose.

He added that the authority had officially inaugurated that the project on Tuesday; with a ceremony held in Islamabad during a meeting of the joint coordination committee on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative.
According to reports, there are no facilities available (as of now) along the highway even though tenders have been issued.

The 392-kilometre-long M-5 expressway has been completed within 39 months, well before the deadline, by the China State Engineering Company. It is expected to reduce travel time between the cities of Multan and Sukkur from eight hours to three hours and fifteen minutes. The highway includes 10 rest areas, 12 service outlets, 426 underpasses, 54 bridges, and 10 flyovers.
