Islamabad: The National Highway Authority (NHA) inaugurated the Multan-Sukkur M-5 Motorway by opening it to light traffic yesterday (13 September), a news source reported. The newly constructed road spans an approximate 392 km.

The project is part of the Karachi to Lahore motorway being constructed under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). It is expected to reduce travel time between Sukkur and Multan from six, to three and a half hours. The project has been completed two months before its actual deadline.

This is the only motorway yet to be constructed where service lanes have been included on both sides of the road, making it a six-lane road. This mega project under CPEC will accelerate industrial growth, as well as help the agriculture sector. It is anticipated that this will pave the way for the socio-economic uplift of both provinces.
