Multan: The Deputy Commissioner Abdul Amer Khattak has issued orders to the district administration and revenue officers for identifying benami properties in the city, a news source reported.

The task includes investigation of Multan’s large commercial plazas, agricultural and commercial land, and housing societies. The names of individuals that raise any suspicions or are found guilty would be submitted to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
The DC presided over a meeting to review the matter of benami properties. Several officials concerned, including revenue and FBR officers, attended the meeting. The DC stated that the district administration had the responsibility of identifying the benami properties. He added that after this identification process, FBR should follow up with the rest of the action required.
Khattak stated that the district administration should acquire the help of the public for this task. He appealed to citizens for contacting the Assistant Commissioner (AC) concerned for reporting a benami property. He assured that their names would be kept anonymous.
The DC added that the reporting individuals would also receive a cash award, which would be set according to the price of the property reported. He clarified that authorities concerned would not consider properties on behalf of brothers, spouses, or children as benami.

The DC directed the officials concerned to submit a weekly report on benami properties to the government. He stressed that as per the new Benami Property Act, keeping such a property is a crime.
