Islamabad: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Wednesday (November 16) chaired a review meeting on the progress of the Mera Pakistan Mera Ghar (MPMG) scheme, news sources reported.

The minister stated that the government would continue to support the markup subsidy for the masses in order to tackle the country’s deteriorating housing gap. He also stated that the government will improve the project’s financial aspects in addition to addressing operational and functional obstacles. Naya Pakistan Housing & Development Authority (NAPHDA) Chairman Lt Gen Anwar Ali Hyder (Retd) updated the minister on the project’s financial structure, development, and characteristics. The minister urged the meeting attendees to come up with a credible and long-term solution to the mortgage crisis, as well as to seek government assistance in addressing operational uncertainties in the current program and revitalizing it for the benefit of the public.

It is worth noting that the MPMG project was initiated in 2020 to solve the country’s housing needs. However, the government suspended project financing in May of this year, claiming financial restrictions, and planned to restart the project after restructuring on a competitive market basis.
