Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Information Technology Board (ITB) and Peshawar City District Government has signed an MoU to make Peshawar a smart city, reported a news source.
The MoU signing ceremony was held on Thursday in the presence of various high ranking officials and provincial secretaries. Speaking at the occasion, Peshawar District Nazim Asim Muhammad Khan said the MoU signing marks the start of a new era.

Under this agreement, ITB will provide Wi-Fi services on bus stations and apply modern means to deal with various other challenges. New systems will be incorporated to monitor air pollution and deal with climate and natural catastrophes. Furthermore, Peshawar will also improve its mechanism of service delivery.

Launching these initiatives will also create several employment opportunities. According to the district nazim, the operations of the City District Government will soon become paperless. The mechanisms will instead be shifted to digital technology.
As per the signed MoU, ITB will also construct a digital complex spanning 25 acres on GT Road. The complex will help KP become an information technology hub. The IT Complex will remove shortage of digital complexes in the provincial headquarter.
Speaking at the occasion, Provincial Minister of Local Government Shahram Khan Tarkai said process of local government will be digitalised. These include biometric attendance system for employees, and collection of taxes. In addition, the digital technology will also be used for increasing revenue.
