Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Housing Authority (KPHA) and the Pakistan Housing Authority Foundation (PHAF) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the development of a low-cost housing project in the city — under the auspices of the Prime Minister Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP), according to a news source.

The signing ceremony for the MOU took place at the KP Chief Minister (CM)’s Secretariat, on December 11. The cost of the project is estimated to be PKR 97 billion and it is expected to be developed on 8,500 kanals of land, on Kohat Road in Surizai area, located to the south of Peshawar. As per the details shared by the CM’s office, the project is anticipated to be completed within three years of its official launch. Under the agreement, PHAF will construct grey structures of approximately 15,500 houses of various sizes.

KP CM Mahmood Khan received a briefing on the project, where he was informed by the the Housing Department secretary that land for the project had already been procured. Here are some facts shared with the CM in this briefing:
- PKR 14 billion will be required to complete civil work in NPHP Peshawar.
- KP government will construct a 10-kilometre dual carriage connecting Zangali Check Post with the project site.
- KP government will provide PKR 32 billion to construct the society’s boundary wall and PKR 500 million for mobilisation.
- NPHP Peshawar will feature 31 mosques.
- A total of 31 plots will be reserved for schools.
- The society will also feature a college and a hospital, each to be built on 10 kanals of land
- The society will also feature 31 parks, 31 dispensaries, a community centre and a central park spread over 100 kanals of land.
