Gilgit: To help with the security of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the Chinese Government has provided 50 motorcycles and 200 bulletproof jackets to the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Government, according to a news report.
This provision is the result of an agreement signed between the GB Government and China’s Xinjiang province. A ceremony was held in this regard, where GB inspector general of police Sanaullah Abbasi handed over the motorcycle keys and the jackets to the superintendents of police. These motorcycles would be used by the area’s police forces to patrol the CPEC route. SSP Gilgit Tanveerul Hasan said that modern equipment was being provided to the GB police to help them tackle the ever-evolving security requirements of the region, with CPEC. The CPEC route and Chinese citizens working on the route would be protected by the GB police. As CPEC is the largest project in the region, cooperative measures such as this are necessary for its success as part of the larger One-Belt One-Road initiative.
