Rawalpindi: The Directorate of Soil Conservation Punjab Rawalpindi Region has constructed 102 mini dams in Potohar Region during last two years, a news source reported. These had 201 water ponds, 39 water storage tanks, 148 gabion spur and 28 earthern embankments. A mini-dam is usually constructed on 40 acres of land.
Director Soil Conservation Department Malik Ghulam Akbar stated that due to these measures, coupled with soil erosion control, 32,190 acres of land was made cultivable in Potohar. This has also contributed to the rising water table in the region and increased employment opportunities for the people. Saplings were also planted on 334.50 acres of land by the department.
