Islamabad: Over 92,000 people benefited from the tax amnesty scheme by midnight on June 30, adding PKR 42 billion to the national treasury, a news source reported.
A major chunk of those availing the amnesty scheme comprises new filers, it was reported. Out of the PKR 42 billion total, PKR 6 billion was paid by those who availed the amnesty scheme for whitening their foreign assets or income.

The taxes collected by FBR by June 30 amounted to PKR 3.820 trillion, against a revised target of PKR 4.15 trillion. Efforts are being made to raise the tax collection to PKR 3.842 trillion, which was the tax collected last year. Tax authorities said that there are some collection figures in the pipeline, with clearance of customs containers and netting of more taxes on account of Sales Tax and Income Tax adding to this amount.
The expectation is that with the three-day extension, the number of people availing the scheme will touch 100,000, while the collection figures are expected to cross PKR 60 billion.
