Islamabad: The Ministry of Energy, Power Division informed the Senate that 128,909 new domestic gas connections were made operational in Islamabad in the last five years, a news source reported. His statement came in response to a question posed in the Senate.
In response to another query, the Senate was told that 24 private housing schemes have applied for new gas connections in the city. Approvals has been granted for 10 of these requests, with supplies of gas under-process.

The Senate was told that the production of natural gas during the fiscal year 2017-18 amounted to 3,997 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD). Meanwhile, the domestic and industrial demand for the utility stands at 1,090 MMCFD, and 820 MMCFD, respectively.
The ministry, in its written reply, informed that the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) had installed 337 new commercial gas connections in Islamabad between July-2013 and June-2018. The correspondence further stated that gas pressures remained unaffected due to the provision of commercial gas connections.
