Sialkot: Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President Khawaja Masood Akhtar said on Sunday that the city was facing a shortage of industrial estates and zones.

He said that SCCI had already proposed new small industrial estates on all road networks leading to Sialkot city. He added that the establishment of a special economic zone (SEZ) would also help address the problems faced by industrialists.
This proposed SEZ, to be built along the Sialkot-Lahore Motorway, is expected to accelerate trade activities as well as open new vistas of development. SCCI previously suggested that the SEZ be set up near Wazirabad.

This facility is expected to help develop the industrial sectors of Sialkot, Gujranwala, and Gujrat; as well as the cities’ adjoining areas. The SCCI president said that Sialkot had immense economic importance and it should be developed accordingly.
