Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi administration has asked the residents of Nullah Leh to vacate the land around the Nullah Leh and other canals following the four-day monsoon spell forecast, news source reported. Heavy machinery and manpower have also been mobilized to clear the obstruction in the flow of water and expedite the dredging work before the start of the 4 days monsoon season in the city.

Furthermore, the administration has demolished 127 slums and shanty houses and filed 21 cases against those who dumped rubbish in Nullah.
The district government has also notified the army’s 111-brigade to assist the civilian government in the event of an emergency. The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) and other affiliate agencies have been instructed to suspend staff’ vacations in order to respond to the critical situation.

In addition to the areas surrounding the Nullah, the city district government has ordered inhabitants of 280 crumbling multi-storey buildings in the city to leave before the rainy season begins to avert any human tragedy.
Moreover, the city district government has allocated PKR 30 million for the cleaning of 17 small and large storm drains and links canals.
