Rawalpindi: Simly Dam, Khanpur Dam, and Rawal Dam – the three dams which supply water to the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad – are now full after the monsoon spells received over the past few weeks, a news source reported.

The dams collectively have enough water to provide uninterrupted supply to both cities for an entire year. Thus, the threat of water shortage in both cities has also been avoided.
The Rawal Dam currently has 1751 acres feet of water stored in it, while its total capacity is 1752 acres feet. It has been drained of excess water twice just this month. The Khanpur Dam currently has 1900 acres feet of water out of a total capacity of 1920 acres feet, while the Simly Dam has reached its total capacity.

These numbers might still increase as the monsoon season has not ended yet. It is expected that the Rawal Dam will likely have to be drained of excess water once more during this month.
