Islamabad: Continuous heavy downpour in the twin cities has submerged various parts of the cities in water, prompting the authorities to declare a monsoon emergency, quoted a news source. The rescue services have declared that so far there have been no casualties.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department spokesperson Khalid Malik said that the heavy downpour has been recorded at 206 millimetres at Shamsabad in Rawalpindi and 163 mm at Zero Point Islamabad. The continuous rain means water in Nullah Leh rose to 15 feet and various roads such as Murree Road, Committee Chowk, Kartarpura, Shakriyal, Sadiqabad, Rawal Road, Raja Bazar, Moti Bazar, and Ariyan Muhalla were completely submerged.
The boundary wall of the old Benazir International Airport near the runway collapsed, while the inundation caused traffic jams along various roads. This is why the authorities have alerted the relevant rescue teams.
