Islamabad: The ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of Mohmand Dam will take place on May 2, a news source quote Senator Faisal Javed. Prime Minister Imran Khan will perform the project’s ground-breaking. The senator thanked the donor for contributing to the cause.

According to Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman Lt. General Muzammil Hussain, the construction of Mohmand Dam will take five years to complete. The WAPDA chairman shared this information earlier in February with the Senate Standing Committee on Water Resources. He also mentioned that by using modern technology, the estimated construction time can be reduced.

The project, which was conceived decades ago, has seen delays in the past due to cases filed against its construction. The cases have finally been cleared with the verdict given in favour of the project. The Supreme Court of Pakistan and the federal government also launched a fundraising campaign to construct dams in Pakistan. So far, the fund has collected an amount of over PKR 10.40 billion, with more donations made each day.
