Lahore: The Punjab government has approved the launch of a new tram service, which will convert MM Alam Road to one-way traffic, as reported by news sources on July 23.

As per details the tram service will cover an 11-kilometer route, with stops every 1 to 1.5 kilometers, connecting major areas such as Liberty, Main Market, Mini Market, and Hali Road. The project, estimated at PKR 27 billion, will feature modern trams from Finland and China and include a special stop within Gaddafi Stadium.
The decision was confirmed during a meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif at the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) headquarters. Chief Minister Sharif, along with senior provincial minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and special assistant on political affairs Zeeshan Malik, emphasised the need for the project’s prompt completion. An official launch date will be announced in due course.

Ticket pricing for the tram service will be disclosed once the project is completed. Additionally, the chief minister has approved the development of a signal-free corridor from Kareem Block to the Motorway to further enhance traffic management in Lahore.
