Islamabad: The plans for Main Line (ML)-I will be finalised between Pakistan and China next month, a news source quoted Pakistan Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed. The strategically important project is being developed under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
In this regard, a high-level Chinese delegation will be visiting Pakistan on December 19; the delegation will also visit Railways Ministry. Briefing the media on the project, Rasheed said that railways division has been set up in Gwadar, for which an in-charge officer will be appointed soon. He further added that 365 acres of land have been procured in Gwadar, while 227 acres are yet to be purchased. Rasheed also revealed that, along with ML-I, work on ML-II and ML-III is also underway.
Sharing details on the new trains routes announced recently, Rasheed said that Mianwali Express, Rohi Express, Mahenjo Daro Express, Rawalpindi Express, Faisalabad Express, and Dhabeji Express have already been launched, while four other trains will be launched soon. He also revealed that the launch of Sindh Express and Rehman Baba Express is also close.
In order to increase Pakistan Railways’ income, the number of freight trains will be increased from 10 to 14. In this regard, two trains have been handed over to the railways freight company; the inauguration of these trains will be done on December 25, 2018, and January 20, 2019, respectively.
