Islamabad: China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority Chairman Lieutenant General (retired) Asim Saleem Bajwa on Monday stated that the ML-1 Railway project would increase the country’s transport share by 16%, a news source reported. He explained that the share would increase from 4% to 20% after the project’s implementation.

Bajwa made these comments while briefing the Senate Special Committee on the CPEC project. He highlighted that that the CPEC initiative would ‘revolutionise Pakistan’s construction and development sectors’. He added that the ML-1 Railway project would soon reach completion, along with the laying down of a network of highways. The transmission system of the railways would be replaced under this project, he said.

The CPEC Authority chairman also revealed that the railway engineers would undergo training jointly with Russia, Britain, and Germany. He also briefed the committee on various other projects including the Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) and different Special Economic Zones (SEZs).
