Islamabad: The Ministry of Finance on Monday held a meeting to discuss potential reforms in the Federal Board of Revenue — a news source reported.

The meeting was chaired by Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance & Revenue Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, with Advisor to the PM on Commerce Abdul Razak Daood and Advisor to the PM on Institutional Reforms Dr Ishrat Hussain also in attendance. A number of FBR officials were also present on the occasion, including FBR Chairman Muhammad Javed Ghani.
During the session, it was decided that the FBR would have to submit regular reports on its revenue collection targets and its other performance indicators.

The meeting also decided to overhaul the FBR appeal system, and the way the appellate system is handled by the board, in order to free up the maximum amount of revenue. Additionally, the authorities also agreed to automate income tax refunds.
Moreover, the FBR is further expected to work on simplifying income tax returns.
