Islamabad: The federal government has freed PKR 9.37 billion for textile exporters of the country under various schemes, a news source reported. As per the publication, Adviser to Prime Minister for Commerce, Textile, Industry, Production and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood revealed that the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) released PKR 17.7 billion to the textile sector in December last year – which makes a total of PKR 27 billion in three months.

Dawood informed that the MOC had also released a duty drawback on taxes (DDT) of PKR 3.8 billion in 2017-2018 and PKR 3.9 billion for 2018-2021. He assured the exporters from various sectors that the government was concerned about their issues and would provide a relief package to relieve them of liquidity problems.

Earlier, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) announced on Tuesday that the export levels of the clothing and textile sector increased by 17 percent as compared to last year’s statistics for February. The earnings from the said exports rose to USD 1.27 billion in the last month as compared to the USD 1.09 billion of 2019.
