Lahore: Punjab Finance Minister Makhdoom Hashim Jawan Bakht has stressed the need for developing all Punjab districts in unison, a news source reported.
Addressing the members of the 25th Senior Management Course, the minister said that Punjab held greater responsibilities – being the largest province and the biggest GDP contributor . He said that the good performance of all the districts was crucial for the growth and prosperity of the federation.
He informed that the Punjab government is working to integrate all the districts in the new growth strategy – a measure aimed at improving their individual performances.
Detailing the efforts being taken, he said that urbanisation in Punjab is accelerating due to the government’s focus on providing the missing facilities in small cities and the province’s less developed areas.
Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and the cottage industry are also being prioritised.
The minister remarked that the growth of Punjab over the next five years depends on agriculture, so the government is giving proper attention to the sector.
For this end, the government has prepared a spatial strategy which will help it to conduct aerial surveys and check the province’s available agricultural potential and issues. This will then help the authorities to develop better policies and developmental programmes, the minister stated.
