Quetta: Minister for Irrigation Balochistan Nawabzada Tariq Magsi requested researchers, engineers, and scientists to suggest innovative techniques and new technologies to deal with water shortage in Balochistan, a news source reported. Magsi made the request on Wednesday during his speech at the inaugural ceremony of the “Fourth Invention to Innovate Summit” organised by the University of Balochistan.

The minister said that various countries across the globe have adopted smart technology to deal effectively with depleting water resources, and Pakistan should be following in their footsteps. The economy of the country is closely tied to agriculture and agro-based industries. These cannot survive without water, and the need for reservoirs increases with every passing day.

Magsi stressed the urgent need for innovative solutions to improve the efficiency of irrigation and enhance water productivity, especially in the livestock and agriculture sectors. He added that otherwise, Pakistan would become a water-stressed country very soon.
