Islamabad: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin on Wednesday (November 17) asked the relevant authorities to functionalise the Federal Government Properties Management Authority (FGPMA), news sources reported. The authority is formed to protect and manage the land owned by the federal government and ministries across the country.

According to the details, the meeting was informed that the government issued an order for the establishment of the FGPMA following its approval from the cabinet in July. The formation of the department, on the other hand, is taking time. The bill for the newly constituted department’s legal standing has also been sent to the National Assembly (NA) for final approval. Furthermore, it was stated that the department’s primary goal would be to protect, retrieve, and use state land in a way that generates revenue and increases the value of the property. The department was established as various federal government agencies were unable to preserve the land, and as a result, a large portion of state land is now under unlawful occupancy and encroachment.

The acts of the authority will have legal cover against the court as per the bill approved for the creation of the FGPMA, and no act of the authority may be questioned in a court of law. Similarly, the FGPMA can cancel or re-plan any project and mortgage assets with the approval of the federal government.
