Islamabad: Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar has thanked French Ambassador for the role of French Development Agency and invited France to invest in energy production, a news source reported. The minister was talking to Ambassador of France, Marc Barety and AFD Country Director Jacky Amprou. Secretary Planning Zafar Hasan was also present in the meeting.
Bakhtiar said France may look to finance projects in energy because a huge potential for the sectors exists in Pakistan. Pakistan also needs to upgrade its transmission system because of the increased electricity generation. Secretary Zafar Hasan said that the present government is committed towards promotion of clean energy and France can consider funding that.
The minister also called for bilateral cooperation on tourism in Pakistan.
The French Ambassador stated that France is financing projects in different areas including hydropower, urban management and restoration of heritage sites. He also explained that AFD is willing to expand the scope of its activities in the future.
