Lahore: Punjab Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Local Government & Community Development Raja Basharat has directed the forest departments to take solid measures against the initiation of new housing schemes in the Kallar Kahar Hills, according to a news source. He said that new housing schemes were damaging the natural beauty of the hills and posed serious threats to environmental conservation efforts.
The minister was presiding over a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Business at Civil Secretariat. The meeting was attended by the Punjab Minister for Excise and Taxation Hafiz Mumtaz Ahmad, Minister for Labour Anser Majeed Khan, Additional Chief Secretary Punjab, Additional Chief Secretary Home, Secretary Law and other officers of the concerned departments.
The minister also ordered a probe into the matter to determine who was issuing NOCs to these housing schemes in the Kallar Kahar Hills.
The meeting also approved a proposal banning approvals for water distributaries having a capacity of less than one cusec in semi-perennially irrigated areas.
