Rawalpindi: The Transport Minister of Punjab Mohammad Jahanzaib Khan Khichi directed the Punjab Masstransit Authority (PMA) on Sunday, to fix all the broken elevators and escalators at the metro bus stations in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, according to news sources.

Minister Khichi also opined that the government has increased the metro bus fare to PKR 30, as they seek to reduce the subsidy of the service to elevate the economy, and to counteract the hike in petroleum prices.
The minister added that the government is working to introduce an additional 5,000 buses to improve the provincial transport infrastructure, and that illegal bus stands would also be sealed in the upcoming days.

Talking to the media, Minister Khichi announced the government’s plan to grant B-class status to all general bus stands in the province, bringing them under the jurisdiction of the provincial government administration, instead of the municipal corporations. The Pirwadhai General Bus Stand will also receive B-class status and its operations will be handed over to the provincial government by the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation.

Additionally, the minister instructed regional transport authorities to take action against transporters who overcharge customers.
Minister Khichi, with MPAs Ijaz Khan Jazi and Wasiq Qayyum, also visited the Pirwadhai General Bus Stand and inspected the service standards being offered to the passengers, and visited the bus bays and waiting lounge as well.
