Islamabad: Minister for Planning, Development, and Reform told the Senate Special Committee on China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) that the government is prioritising coal and hydro-based power projects, according to a news report.
He briefed a meeting of the committee about these priorities and said that the government is reprioritising CPEC projects. He stated that the government has dropped some and shelved other projects based on imported coal, including a 1,380 MW project in Raheem Yar Khan. According to him, a more integrated strategy would be used, with equal focus on power generation, distribution, and transmission. He added that projects using indigenous coal would be preferred, including the 4,000 MW Thar Power Project, and that all power projects would be completed on an Independent Power Producer basis.
