Chitral: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Special Assistant to Chief Minister for Energy and Power Taj Muhammad on Sunday (July 25) inaugurated as many as 11 mini-micro hydel power (MMHPs) stations in Chitral with an accumulative generation capacity of 1.7MW, news sources reported.

The cheap hydroelectric power will be able to power 4,000 households in the valley. As per the details shared, five of the newly inaugurated MMPHs are in Kalash Valley, five in Garam Chashma, and one in Sheshi valley.
The hydropower projects, according to the minister, would assist literacy, health sector development, in addition to uplifting the economic status of the communities.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) Engineer Mohammad Naeem Khan, briefed Mr Taj on the PEDO’s 69 MW Lawi Hydro Power Plant (HPP) and 4.2 MW Reshun HPP. The minister stated that the projects would be completed soon in order to meet the rising demands of the Chitral valley. He also stated that additional MMPH will be built in phase II of the ongoing project.
