Islamabad: The government is planning to table its mini-budget in the next National Assembly (NA) session, according to a news report. This is expected to lead to the introduction of the government’s comprehensive economic plan for the next three years.
The NA session is set to begin on Friday. The government plans to have it passed within a week’s timeframe. For this purpose, the executive branch will attempt to suspend the rest of the session’s agenda, in order to bring focus on the budget.
The budget also aims to bridge the gap of tax collection. FBR had not been able to meet the tax collection target of the previous year because of September’s mini-budget.
It is expected that the government will impose taxes on luxury items. It has also announced its intentions to reduce tariffs to help with the nationwide industrialisation effort. Opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif will launch debate on this issue from the opposition’s benches.
