Islamabad: The Peshawar-Islamabad Metro Bus Service project has been handed over to the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), a news source reported. As per the publication, the National Highway Authority (NHA) – which has been executing the said metro project – notified the deadline of 31st March to its contractors to finish the belated project.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Capital Development Authority (CDA) Affairs Ali Nawaz Awan informed this on Friday in his office. Both NHA and the Punjab Metro Bus Authority (PMBA) had refused to run the operation of the said project after which the government decided to let the ICT administration operationalise it.

Awan said the funds required to hire the staff and buy buses would be allocated in the coming budget. Additionally, the authorities are planning to replicate the model of Punjab Metro Bus Authority and execute it accordingly.

The metro bus project has faced a number of delays in the last three years and was supposed to be completed by August 2017. However, the project has not been completed yet and the concern of price escalation remains.
