Peshawar: The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has communicated its intention to develop nine mega projects for the promotion of tourism, culture, sports and youth development in the tribal districts, a news source reported. As per the publication, the projects in question have been scheduled for the fiscal year 2019-2020, and are estimated to cost a total of PKR 5.120 billion to the provincial exchequer.

The provincial government has decided to implement tourism projects in all seven tribal districts under the Accelerated Implementation Programme (AIP); taking advantage of the region’s landscapes, valleys and mountains. About PKR 1,000 million will be spent on establishing tourism destinations across the area. A total of PKR 800 million has been earmarked for organising tourism festivals and other related activities, while another PKR 120 million will be used to develop tourism facilities such as Tourist Information Centres. A conference was recently held in the region for the same purpose.
PKR 100 million has been earmarked for a youth development package, and to establish youth facilities. Another PKR 600 million will be used for the economic uplift of the region’s youth population.

The rehabilitation of existing sports facilities and construction of new ones will cost the government approximately PKR 1,000 million, while another PKR 250 million will be used to organise events and promote sports in the region.
In addition, PKR 250 million will be used to set-up culture and art centres in the tribal districts in order to promote cultural activities in the region, and another PKR 100 million will be utilized to manage the archaeological heritage of the area.
