Rawalpindi: The Punjab Forest Department recently prepared a mega development project to protect and promote the natural forests located within the Rawalpindi Division, according to a news source. The initiative aims to promote fauna and flora activity in these forests through the implementation of strict rules.

Forest Department Administration Director Muhammad Nauman stated that the first phase of the project would focus on protecting the two most dense and oldest forests of Chakwal, namely ‘Chhanji’ and ‘Aara Para’. Reportedly, 25-kilometere-long jogging tracks will be developed within these forests, while the department will also be planting fruit-bearing saplings in the area’s clearings.

Moreover, the department will develop 18 mini dams for the purpose of irrigating these forests and saving rain water. According to Nauman, the department will shift its focus to forests in Jhelum and Rawalpindi during the project’s second phase, during which more saplings will be planted in order to expand the existing forest cover in these districts.

In addition to the aforementioned measures, the department is also planning on having fool-proof security measures in place to curb incidents of wood theft. For this purpose, CCTV cameras will be installed at various spots, while patrolling staff will also be present to keep a check on the area.
