Rawalpindi: Punjab Minister for Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed on Sunday announced the provincial government’s decision to conduct an extensive anti-encroachment drive in Murree — with the initiative aimed at tackling mounting traffic-related issues and restoring the pristine beauty of the hill station, according to a news source.

This decision was made in a meeting of the Murree Improvement Trust (MIT). During the session, the minister undertook numerous decisions for the benefit of Murree and its residents. In addition, issues such as the provision of water supply, removal of encroachments, solution of traffic issues and constructions of buildings under MIT were also deliberated at the occasion.

Minister Rasheed revealed that the provision of a clean and uninterrupted water supply to the city was among his key priorities. Additionally, besides an anti-encroachment drive, the development of a new parking space is also being planned near Jheeka Galli to tackle traffic issues.

The minster stated that a continuous flow of traffic was crucial to evade traffic jams, particularly during weekends and holidays. He further briefed that maps of the residences in MIT Schemes should be passed without delay in order to aid the legal development of buildings in the area.
