Lahore: The Punjab government plans to expand its Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP) project to the rural areas in a phased manner, according to Provincial Minister Housing & Urban Development Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed.

He expressed his views on the matter during a meeting in Lahore on Friday. Officials of the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) gave briefings on the pre-feasibility reports prepared for the NPHP scheme in Chiniot and Sialkot.
The discussions held pertained to the layout plan, population of nearby areas, distance from other cities, cost of land, design, legal framework, development, model, sales & marketing, and subsidy on the project.
The government plans to construct 2.5 million houses in different cities of the province. These include Lodhran, Renala Khurd, Chishtian, Silakot, Faisalabad, Lahore, Bahawalpur, and Multan; among others.

Rasheed said that the NPHP project was a step towards creating a welfare state – as promised by Prime Minister Imran Khan. He added that the government would fulfil its promises made to the masses.
