It was agreed upon during the session that plastic bags should be 12 x 15 inches in size and 45 to 50 microns in thickness which will allow recycling of the bags. The session decided that the Plastic Bag Association, the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) and the Environment Department will focus on recycling and work together to enforce it.

The LCCI president and vice president stated that closure of the entire industry was not a sustainable solution. They suggested that the government should instead change the rules to meet the needs of current times by consulting with the Plastic Bag Association. The association has a research and development department and a standing committee on environment which can aid the government’s work towards new legislation, they added.
