Multan: The Multan Development Authority (MDA) has announced leasing 292 of its plots and auctioning commercial land to both protect these tracts from encroachments and generate additional revenue, a news source reported.

According to details, the department took the decision with a view to protect the plots from encroachers. Reportedly, a number of these plots had been purchased for public projects or welfare schemes but as they remain unutilised, they were quickly occupied by influential individuals. These include high-end commercial plots in Gulgasht Colony and the Gulshan Market.
The MDA is going to auction a 2-kanal land located on the Northern Bypass, in the first phase. At the same time, some 292 plots will be leased.

Speaking on the matter, MDA Director General (DG) Muhammad Ali Abbas said that encroachers are making huge amounts of money after leasing out MDA-owned plots illegally. This will help the authority take back the stock of the plots and redirect the funds towards the national exchequer.
