Lahore: The Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) warned citizens against initiating construction on any project without acquiring formal approval, according to a notification. Carrying out illegal construction work is a punishable crime under the Punjab Local Government Act 2013, the notice stated.
In the case of noncompliance, the MCL warned citizens that the result would be a 3-year jail sentence, a PKR 100,000 fine, or both. In addition, the MCL also holds the right to forcefully stop construction work, confiscate building material or machinery, and demolish any illegal structure. The expenses for demolishing such a structure will be paid by the owner. In case the illegal construction work isn’t stopped, MCL can also fine the owner PKR 10,000 per day.
In order to assist property owners in getting their building plans approved, the publication also includes rates. PKR 2/ft2 for the covered area of residential units, PKR 3/ft2 for the covered area of industrial units, and PKR 5/ft2 for the covered area of commercial buildings.
