Lahore: The Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) has decided to carry out a new survey on the dilapidated buildings in the city, a news source reported. The authority took the decision following the recent earthquake and three incidents of fallen roofs.

Upon the instructions of Commissioner & Administrator Asif Bilal Lodhi, the Municipal Officer (MO) Planning had notified the zonal officers to conduct the survey. MCL will complete the survey within a week’s time.
In the report 2018-19 presented previously, MCL had sent notices to 483 dilapidated buildings in the city in view of the monsoon season. The report indicated that authorities concerned had razed 198 buildings and repaired 266 buildings in the past 10 years.

Meanwhile, according to the report, the decision on 19 dilapidated buildings had been delayed. Additionally, there were 29 buildings included in the red zone that had not been rehabilitated.
MCL has assigned a dangerous status to the following number of buildings in different zones:
- 66 in Aziz Bhatti Zone
- 145 in Data Ganj Baksh Zone
- 20 in Allama Iqbal Zone
- 24 in Gulberg
- Three in Nishtar Zone
- 34 in Ravi Zone
- 94 in Samanabad
- 71 in Shalamar Zone
- 24 in Wagha Zone
According to MCL officials, 45 dilapidated buildings in the city fall within the limits of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA), Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA), and Communications & Works (C&W) Department.

Lodhi assured that after the completion of the new survey, they would ensure the rehabilitation work of the dilapidated buildings will continue unabated.
